1 Now we that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. 2 Let each one of us please his neighbor for that which is good, unto edifying.
3 For Christ also pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell upon me.
4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that through patience and through comfort of the scriptures we might have hope.
5 Now the God of patience and of comfort grant you to be of the same mind one with another according to Christ Jesus: 6 that with one accord ye may with one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
7 Wherefore receive ye one another, even as Christ also received you, to the glory of God.
8 For I say that Christ hath
been made a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, that he might confirm the promises given unto the fathers,
9 and that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written,
Therefore will I give praise unto thee among the Gentiles, And sing unto thy name.
10 And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people.
11 And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; And let all the peoples praise him.
12 And again, Isaiah saith, There shall be the root of Jesse, And he that ariseth to rule over the Gentiles; On him shall the Gentiles hope.
13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

What is this?

Follow Paul is a tool that lets you create visualisations about the flow of tought in text of the Bible. This is especially useful when studying the epistles, that are notorious for their complex structure of reasoning.

The stroy is, that I was once preparing for a bible stury on Romans 15, and wanted to highlight the topics and lines of reason in that chapter. So I created a diagram, similar to what you can create in this app, using a word processor. It was a lot of manual work, but everyone found the result useful. So I looked around for tools that could help with this in the future. I found Biblearc, which is a great tool, you should check it out, but

  • it is a paid app, and while it definately worth the price, it may be out of reach for some, and
  • I just needed this simple graphing feature.
So, I decided to quickly develop this app, and designed it to
  • Be as light as possible. It does not have any extra features, it does not require login, does not store your data in any way (not even the diagram you work on, it only lives in your browser), not using cookies.
  • Allow you to save and open diagrams on your PC for further processing, sharing or printig.
  • Use standard web components, so with your browser you can resize or print the diagram or translate the app to your native language as you would with a static website.
  • Be free and open source. You can check the source code by clicking on theicon.
Hope you find it useful.

Usage

Hover you mouse over the icons on the top of the page to find out what they are doing. Click on

to show this information.

  1. Get Bible text.

    You have 2 options here.

    • load a specified verse range from the internet or
    • paste text from your clipboard. With this option, verse numbers will be detected automatically.

  2. Set the title

The title is above the Bible text. Click on it to edit any time.

  3. Structure

With the mode slider above the diagram, select "structure" mode.

    • Click on a word to split the text there. With each split you create new "blocks". Each block has a blue circle in front, which is the "handle"
    • Click on the first word of a block, to merge it back to the previous block.
    • Click on a block handle, to start defining the logical premise of that block. The block background change to a darker shade, higlighting the block about to be linked, and also indicating that the app is in linking state.
    • While in linking state, click to an other block handle to select it as the logical premise of the original block. The diagram updates automatically to visually reflect the logical link you just created. Circular linking is not permitted.
    • To break logical links, just click on the same block's handle again.

  4. Decorate

With the mode slider above the diagram, select "highlight" mode.

Select a section of text with your mouse, or just click on a word to bring up the text format controls. You can modify the font type and select the highlight color here. Click anywhere else to move on.

  5. Save

You can save your diagram for sharing and later use by clicking on the

icon. This will act as a download action in your browser, but the diagram is not actually downloaded, rather generated in your browser. The saved diagrams can be opened for viewing offline.

  6. Load

    Click on the

icon to "upload" a diagram file. Again, it will not be actually uploaded, rather processed and shown by your own browser. Only diagrams that have been generated with this app can be loaded. Once loaded, you can continue working on it.
